Vacation Programme
AGAA offers a 12-week summer vacation programme for paid on-the-job work experience during your university vacation break (November to February). As a successful vacation student, you’ll get first access to our Graduate Programme opportunities.
We are interested in talented and ambitious second to penultimate-year students, seeking to obtain work exposure during their summer break.
Disciplines and Location
Vacation Student are based at one of our two Australian operations, Sunrise Dam or Tropicana. Our operations are in the northeastern Goldfields of Western Australia. Site-based vacation roles will be FIFO on 8 days on/6 days off or 4 days on/3 days off rostering from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

Our Graduate Programme
Our Graduate Programme which caters for a number of disciplines is a two-year, structured programme based on best practices within your chosen discipline and provides the opportunity of a permanent career.
Due to an early available opening, we are currently sourcing for a motivated Graduate Geologist - Production, to start at our Tropicana Gold Mine to commence within the next few months. This on a site-based 8/6 rosterfrom Perth.
Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the purpose of the role is to assist the Mine Geology team with all aspects of underground and/or open pit production activities, including grade control, data validation, liaising with contractors, inspection and monitoring of mining activities. This role is intended as a career development pathway into a Mine Geologist position.
The main duties will include:
- Provide support to the Mine Geologists in short term grade control processes through effective monitoring of grade control drilling, mining and material movement.
- Complete ore-waste designation and production tracking as directed by the Senior Mining Geologist
- Assist with and undertake mapping as directed by the Senior Mining Geologist
- Validation of daily material movement data with regards to loading and haulage.
- Assist with Grade Control drilling, sample collection and data entry.
- Enter sampling, survey and mapping data into the database accurately and in a timely manner.
- Help with the management of underground and surface stockpiles.
- Ensure effective communication is maintained with mining contractors and AngloGold Ashanti staff.
- Maintain the department vehicles and equipment.
- Identify, assess and manage risks to improve reliability, quality and confidence of operational performance for the Grade Control Definition process
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team by constructively identifying opportunities and testing solutions.
About you:
- Have completed studying a tertiary qualification in Geology
- A good understanding of software applications including MS Suite.
- Tolerance to heat, dust and extreme environmental conditions.
- The ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative.
- An understanding of what safety means and adhering to our site values

About the Program:
The Barminco Graduate Program lets you learn industry-leading, safe practices from some of the most skilled underground miners in the world.
Graduates rotate through each underground role, learning what it truly means to be part of a team whilst gaining the experience necessary to sit their First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate or Underground Supervisor’s Certificate of Competency.
Additionally, the program includes an office-based role where you are given the opportunity to optimise mine processes and hone your project engineering skills.

Key Requirements:

Tertiary Qualification in Mining Engineering.

A strong desire to expand practical underground knowledge.

Previous site experience working underground or open pit.

Proficient use of MS Office suite.

Ability to meet all site access requirements (including, but not limited to, Medical, DAS, NPC & valid manual Driver’s Licence).

The right to work permanently in Australia.
