Your impact

Reporting to the Manager, Processing, Boddington, in the position of Superintendent, Control Systems, you will lead and develop a team of control system supervisors, engineers and technicians to maximise the availability, operability and performance of the Boddington mine Industrial Control Systems (ICS).

As part of our team you will also

  • Be accountable for full lifecycle management of DCS, PLC, SCADA and OT infrastructure including design, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades and obsolescence planning
  • Oversee control system networks, cybersecurity and change management
  • Manage operational and capital budgets in alignment with Newmont’s standards and regulations
  • Provide technical expertise and strategic leadership to optimise production, efficiency and cost control
  • Embed continuous improvement through performance monitoring, root cause analysis and lessons learned
  • Provide visible leadership with a strong focus on health, safety, environmental responsibility, sustainability and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure adherence to Newmont’s Fatality Risk Management program, Electrical Safety Standards and directives from the appointed Site Electrical Authority
  • Lead, mentor and develop the Boddington Control Systems team to optimise plant throughput, recovery, cost efficiency and effective use of automation
  • Be accountable for availability, reliability and performance of Boddington Control Systems monitoring tools and AVEVA PI Master Data
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts and business plans and integrate performance measures against safety, cost and production targets
  • Oversee lifecycle management of IC systems including preventive maintenance, upgrades, audits, obsolescence planning and cybersecurity risk mitigation
  • Govern change management by reviewing, prioritising and executing system modifications, improvement opportunities and security measures
  • Safely deliver ICS-related projects by developing business justifications, resourcing plans, managing scope, cost, schedule and implementation risks
  • Lead investigations into ICS-related failures, drive root cause analysis and ensure lessons learned are applied
  • Collaborate with global peers to share best practices, standardise approaches and embed continuous improvement in fixed-plant process control systems
  • Engage external stakeholders and vendors to drive innovation, ensure best practice and deliver sustainable long-term value.

Prerequisites for your success in the role

  • University degree qualification in Engineering (Control Systems, Instrumentation) and/or trade qualification in Electrical Instrumentation and Control
  • Significant practical experience across mine operations fixed-plant control systems (i.e. DCS, PLC technologies, Yokogawa Centum VP DCS, Rockwell PLCs, etc)
  • Expertise in Industrial Ethernet networks, ICS communication protocols (i.e. Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, Profibus) and IT/OT fundamentals including virtual server setups and cyber-security
  • Proven multi-disciplinary team leadership experience gained in a site-based, mining operations role
  • Experience with AVEVA PI Master Data and governance applicable to mining industry best practice
  • Advanced skills in MS Office applications
  • Full and unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia.

Newmont Boddington is a world-class gold and copper operation located within the Saddleback greenstone belt in Western Australia, approximately 130 kilometres southeast of Perth and 16 kilometres from the rural farming town of Boddington.

Situated on 33,000 hectares of land traditionally owned by the Wiilman people of the Noongar nation, Boddington is a drive-in, drive-out site that offers employees the opportunity to live locally or in Western Australia’s southwest.

This permanent position will be offered on a 5:2, 4:3 drive in drive out roster for the ideal candidate with village accommodation at the Boddington mine provided.
