Port Operations Supervisor

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Port Operations Supervisor to join our Port team based at the Geraldton Karara Export Terminal, responsible for leading the team of Operator Maintainers.

This leadership role will supervise the daily operation pertaining to train unloading and ship loading schedule, ensure and promote compliance to the safety, production and budgeted targets.

This role operates on a Sportsman style roster - 2 days, 2 nights on 5 days off and 2 days, 3 nights on and 4 days off / 3 days, 2 nights on and 5 days off.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Trade Qualification is desirable
• WA ‘C’ Class Drivers’ License
• Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of port and rail operations with generic process plant policies and procedures
• Ability to undertake problem solving investigations and reviews and plan work in line with predicted operational requirements
• Excellent English verbal and written communication and computer literacy skills
• Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
• National Police clearance is required to obtain MSIC

Key Duties - (but not limited to):

• Ensure compliance with all statutory and organisational OHS&E requirements by promoting a proactive safety culture, including daily hazard identification and risk assessments
• Lead, mentor, and support team members, demonstrating respectful behaviours at all times
• Optimise labour, parts, and equipment utilisation
• Act as first point of contact for Operator Maintainers on production issues
• Provide daily reports to the Superintendent Operations on activities, downtime, and production matters
• Work with the Superintendent Operations to ensure safe, efficient access to equipment for planned maintenance
• Allocate shift tasks in line with maintenance schedules, control room operations, and ship loading
• Approve permits for working at heights, confined spaces, and isolations as a Level 2 Authorised Isolator and Permitting Officer
