OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

This is a high-impact opportunity for a seasoned mining professional who can support operational excellence, improve field execution, and influence safety, productivity, and cost performance across multiple sites.

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Open Pit Operations to provide operational insight, technical support, and site-based guidance across its Africa Business Unit. This role is focused on improving the safe, efficient, and consistent execution of open pit mining activities by strengthening the link between mine planning and operational delivery.

The successful candidate will support open pit operations through technical input, operational reviews, field-based problem solving, and the application of mining standards across drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, dumping, and pit development activities. The role also contributes to operational readiness, productivity improvement, cost control, capability building, and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Support safe and efficient open pit mining operations across drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, dumping, and pit development.
• Provide technical and operational guidance on mine plans, schedules, production strategies, standards, and work practices.
• Assist sites in identifying operational risks, resolving day-to-day technical issues, and improving conformance to company standards.
• Contribute to planning validation, sequence reviews, and alignment between mine design assumptions and operational reality.
• Drive continuous improvement across safety, productivity, equipment utilisation, cost control, and operational efficiency.
• Influence site capability through coaching, operational leadership support, stakeholder engagement, and contractor guidance where required

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Degree in a relevant mining-related discipline

Experience

• Minimum 15 years’ experience in the open pit mining industry
• Strong experience in senior technical, advisory, or operational leadership roles
• Proven ability to interpret mine designs and schedules
• Sound knowledge of open cut mining methods, drill and blast, load and haul, pit sequencing, and fleet management systems
• Strong commercial, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and change management capability
• Willingness to undertake extensive business travel
