Reporting to the Director, Mechanical Engineering, in the position of Specialist Mechanical Engineering you will be responsible for the management of mechanical asset integrity standards and associated governance specifically relating to all surface fixed plant assets across Newmont’s mine site operations.
This will include being a subject matter expert across optimization of mechanical standards for fixed plant assets, analysing and assessing fixed plant asset integrity and maturity on critical assets, formulating condition reports and monitoring business partner performance to ensure alignment and support for Newmont’s global asset integrity initiatives.
As part of our team you will also
- Evaluate the maturity of mechanical systems and processes and identify areas for enhancement and improvement
- Formulate detailed reports based on integrity and maturity assessments and include actionable recommendations for improvements
- Coordinate, execute and close out actions identified during audits and reviews and ensure improvements are executed effectively in collaboration with site-based teams
- Monitor and assess the performance of partners involved in the maintenance and support of stationary mechanical systems and ensure compliance with quality and contractual standards
- Support, guide and facilitate timely and effective close out of all action items from integrity and maturity assessments
- Provide direct subject matter expert input and support to site led failure and incident investigations relating to mechanical systems and deliver technical guidance and solutions to address critical risks
- Facilitate investigation into significant mechanical failures and incidents, diagnose root causes and formulate corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Facilitate and streamline continuous improvement programs aimed at enhancing the reliability, efficiency and performance of stationary mechanical systems
- Sustain collaborative relationships with site-based teams and key stakeholders to facilitate alignment and support for mechanical integrity initiatives.
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- University degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Post-graduate qualification in Mechanical Engineering well regarded
- Chartered Professional Engineer accredited by Engineers Australia and current membership will be well regarded
- A minimum of 5 years practical mechanical engineering experience with fixed plant equipment used in hard rock mine operations
- Expertise in mechanical engineering standards, risk management and compliance
- Competency in mechanical integrity assurance, risk mitigation and governance frameworks
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and structural design and operation of critical fixed plant assets, essentially mills, crushers, thickeners and conveyors
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Your work environment
This permanent position will be offered on a Residential work arrangement and open to applicants currently living in Perth or Brisbane with full and unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia. Regular ad hoc travel to Newmont’s mine site operations and office locations will be a requirement of the position.
