About Copper South Australia
BHP South Australia Asset, Copper SA, consist of three mines, Olympic Dam Carrapateena and Prominent Hill, feeding into a central Smelter and Refinery along with an exploration project at Oak Dam. About the Role
The Trainee Mine Surveyor position is an entry‑level developmental opportunity within our onsite Survey Teams across Copper SA. This role provides a structured pathway to build foundational technical capability while being supported by experienced survey professionals. You will develop key surveying skills, strengthen your safety leadership, and gain a strong understanding of how accurate survey data underpins safe and productive mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Install underground survey control points, backsights, foresights, and alignment markers.
- Support survey mark‑ups for drill and blast activities, mine development, and production requirements.
- Assist with underground drone operations for cavity scanning, stope capture, and monitoring purposes.
- Maintain and update survey files, ensuring accuracy and integrity of spatial data records.
- Participate actively in safety interactions, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with senior surveyors, mine design teams, and mine planning groups.
- Prepare clear documentation and reporting under guidance from senior team members.
- Communicate effectively with the survey team and other operational stakeholders.
