Principal AI Product Owner - Pit to Processing AI

Our Opportunity

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

The key mission of this role will be to drive the roadmap, agile delivery and adoption of AI solutions that transform our geology, metallurgy and mine planning functions. Success in this mission is the delivery of measurable improvements in operational productivity across complex large-scale mining operations, from drill hole to processing plant.

This role is suited to senior individual contributors who lead through influence. This role would suit candidates coming from a range of backgrounds, including geoscience or mining engineering, product management or data science with experience in geoscience or mine planning applications. Regardless of background, the right candidate will bring a strong ability to connect operational problems to AI-enabled solutions and drive real adoption and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a vision for how AI and analytics solutions can transform Fortescue’s geoscience functions
• Develop business cases for these solutions, including value potential, delivery model and stakeholder alignment
• Work closely with operations management and teams to build a roadmap for the delivery of these systems, leading planning and OKR-setting processes
• Lead the product discovery and development process, using data analysis, user research and lean testing to manage uncertainty and accelerate time to prototype, MVP and operational impact
• Work closely with delivery teams to prioritise, bringing business and operational requirements to balance technical considerations, iterating quickly to learn
• Develop a measurement strategy, to track leading and lagging indicators of value
• Lead the change management process, including building awareness and engagement, and working with front-line operations and technical teams to drive user adoption, support process change and drive real outcomes

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated senior experience, either in product management, AI & analytics OR mine operations technical disciplines (i.e. geology, mining engineering), typically 7+ years
• Advanced degree or equivalent practical experience in geology, engineering, data science, computer science or a related field
• Experience in cross-functional teams, particularly business & technology
• Demonstrated ability to lead change through influence
• Ability to translate complex people and technical issues into solution requirements and change strategies
