About The Role: This role offers the opportunity to shape the position around an individual with a strong passion for coal and the broader coal value chain. The ideal candidate will bring a background in geology, coal quality, or mine planning, complemented by experience or exposure to processing and logistics. This position also offers a unique opportunity to broaden your skillset into product development and marketing, working closely with multiple functions across the business.
As the Lead Specialist – Mine Scheduling, you will provide technical leadership, support operational decision-making, and play a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives across the operation. This role offers exposure to a technologically advanced mining environment, including working within an autonomous haulage operation.
This is a site-based position working a 4on/3off Monday to Thursday roster.
What You'll Do:
- Lead mine scheduling activities to help optimise coal recovery, product quality, and overall operational performance at Daunia.
- Provide technical guidance and support across coal planning, geology, and coal quality to ensure effective planning outcomes.
- Work closely with teams across processing, logistics, rail, and shipping to make sure mine plans align with product specifications and customer requirements.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities to enhance planning processes, scheduling efficiency, and value across the operation.
- Contribute to product optimisation and development, using operational insights to support product strategy and market alignment.
What You'll Bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline, with 5+ years’ experience in an operational mining environment.
- Proven leadership capability, ideally with experience in a similar role within an open-cut coal mining operation.
- Experience with industry planning software, such as Deswik, Vulcan, or Spry.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
- A positive, values-driven mindset, with strong communication skills, and a genuine drive for continuous improvement.
