Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact
Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, you will play a key role in optimising drill and blast activities to support safe, efficient and high-quality ore extraction at Newmont Tanami.
Working closely with operations, geology and technical services teams, you will design and execute drill and blast plans that align with production schedules, improve stope performance and drive continuous improvement across underground operations.
This role offers strong exposure across the production cycle, providing the opportunity to influence outcomes, optimise performance and contribute to the ongoing success of a large-scale underground operation.
As part of our team, you will:
- Prepare stope file notes, ring designs and firing plans aligned to mine schedules
- Monitor drill and blast performance and optimise production outcomes
- Conduct underground inspections to support safe and effective execution
- Liaise with operators, engineers and technical teams to resolve issues
- Identify improvement opportunities and implement optimisation initiatives
- Support compliance with drill and blast standards and safety requirements
- Analyse performance data and provide recommendations to stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects across drill and blast activities
Prerequisites for your success in this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in underground metalliferous mining environments
- Strong understanding of drill and blast practices and longhole stoping
- Experience with ANFO, emulsion and electronic detonators
- Exposure to SOLO rigs and downhole drilling (desirable)
- Understanding of explosive safety management practices
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mining software (desirable)

- FIFO 8 days on site | 8 days off site
- Reside in our fully equipped accommodation village
