About the Role

We are currently seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Officer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a rare opportunity to join a small team introducing industry-changing technology with the opportunity for international travel. This position reports through to the Engineering Manager. Focuses on the electrical, instrumentation and control aspects in support of GT’s technologies.  There will also be a central focus on identifying, exploring, and implementing improvements for our technologies.  Improve the performance of the installed equipment and suggest any design and process changes that will improve the performance of the technologies.

Provide a “hands on”, installation, commissioning and maintenance role that involves work at various sites around the world.  Provide leadership and supervision to our customer’s teams and any GT teams. Supervise the site works and commissioning of the GT equipment and plants. Plan and organise these activities, both on site and off. Manage, or undertake, the maintenance of Glencore Technology assets globally.  This may include any test equipment and pilot plants.  Assist other Glencore Technology personnel as required across all of GT’s technologies.

You will be responsible to:

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, instrumentation loop drawings, P&IDs, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams to troubleshoot and maintain electrical systems effectively.
  • Utilise your electrical license (Fitter Mechanic) and instrumentation experience to perform maintenance tasks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude, including familiarity with oil lubrication systems, couplings, gearboxes, and pneumatic valves.
  • Support commissioning activities in challenging environments, including high altitude (up to 5000 MASL), sub-zero environments, and hot/humid conditions.
  • Drive in foreign countries, adhering to local traffic regulations and safety protocols, sometimes in left-hand drive (LHS) or right-hand drive (RHS) vehicles, often working alone.
  • Coordinate and bond with people from diverse nationalities, fostering effective communication and collaboration to achieve project objectives.
  • Prioritise and push Glencore's interests, ensuring that project requirements are met and exceeding expectations.

To succeed in this role you will possess:

  • Electrical mechanic/fitter qualification with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics, instrumentation loop drawings, P&IDs, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, including familiarity with oil lubrication systems, couplings, gearboxes, and pneumatic valves.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments, including high altitude, sub-zero temperatures, and hot/humid conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record, willingness to drive in foreign countries, and adaptability to left-hand drive (LHS) or right-hand drive (RHS) vehicles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to bond and coordinate with people from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.
