About the Role

The Digital WAIO Planning & Scheduling team builds and operates reliable, safe and impactful planning and scheduling technology across Port, Rail and Mines, spanning daily execution through to tactical and strategic horizons.

As Principal Product Owner, you will work closely with the WAIO asset to shape a clear, value-driven roadmap for Planning and Scheduling for Port and Rail. You will lead a high-performing team of digital SMEs to deliver and sustain reliable, safe, high-impact solutions that transform safety, productivity, cost and people performance. You will drive continuous improvement and cost optimisation, build trusted, influential stakeholder relationships, and manage complex cross-functional dependencies. You will balance fast-paced value delivery with disciplined, resilient service management.

As a successful Principal Product Owner, you will:

  • Be connected to the voice of the customer and work collaboratively with asset stakeholders to develop a product roadmap aligned with business value
  • Influence, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders from asset and technology.
  • Have a business value mindset to support the asset in solving for the problems that will lead to the greatest value.
  • Be responsible for wellbeing of the product team.
  • Have an agile and DevOps mindset and coach team to build this into the foundation of what we do.
  • Provides guidance and support to the team to help prioritise work and resolve blockers.
  • Collaborate with digital counterparts to identify opportunities to simplify application landscape through consolidation, replication and scaling.
  • Deliver effective and timely responses to service requests, resolves incidents/problems, and manages the Technology service catalogue.
  • Collaborate with asset stakeholders to define value drivers and determine the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment.
  • Responsible for the management and control of capital projects and operational demand.
  • Lead problem management and root cause analysis for issues and risks.
  • Support management of vendor selection, contracts and performance to maximize operational and financial outcome and mitigate Asset’s exposure to service availability risk.
  • Apply BOS to strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in leading product delivery and/or operational service teams within a technology-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of service requirements and how to effectively manage the end-to-end lifecycle of digital product.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading, influencing and collaborating with critical external vendors that are integral to delivering outcomes for customers and the business. Demonstrated ability to create an environment that inspires growth, innovation and problem solving where people feel empowered and can bring their whole selves to work.
  • Demonstrated capability to navigate and deliver change in technology environments, coordinating decision‑makers and teams while maintaining business stakeholder confidence and buy‑in.
  • A growth mindset that enjoys strategic and divergent thinking, experimenting, and going outside your comfort zone.
  • Strong communication skills and experience influencing across different levels of the business
  • Experience building a team culture of safety, collaboration, transparency and trust.
  • Understanding business strategic value levers that can be unlocked through technology.
  • WAIO supply chain knowledge and experience considered a bonus.
  • Technical background, understanding of technical complexities and solution’s design considered a bonus.
