About the Role

Provide leadership in the delivery of the Internal Audit Plan by effectively and efficiently managing a portfolio of audits across global commercial risks and company-wide processes. Provide ongoing technical, project management and people leadership to audit teams in the field and develop and maintain professional relationships with the business in providing both assurance and advice on internal controls and risk management.

The role will be based in Kuala Lumpur (KL), with a small local team delivering audits based in KL and also in other BHP locations, with audit-specific teams made up of members from the wider audit function as relevant.

  • Manages and delivers a selection of commercial and other functional internal audits, in line with the approved annual internal audit plan, on-time, on-budget, in accordance with the approved scope, and with a high degree of quality of assurance outcomes. This is completed by planning, executing and reporting in compliance with the Internal Audit Methodology, relevant BHP governance framework requirements and industry standards.
  • Conducts internal audits in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter and IIA Internal Audit methodology, the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and relevant BHP governance requirements.
  • Uses data analytics to define scope, analyse trends, identify exceptions and produce factually based outcomes.
  • Engages with business leaders to ensure understanding of risk insights, promote critical thinking and improve culture.
  • Leads a team based in Kuala Lumpur (KL), providing leadership on setting goals and KPIs, personal and professional development, and managing human resources activities.
  • Engages with personnel across a range of BHP functions to continuously enhance the scope of the audit program in line with company objectives and BHP and industry standards.
  • Drives positive change both within Internal Audit and across BHP by challenging assumptions and leading innovation initiatives.
  • Makes sound decisions, remains flexible and applies intuition when faced with ambiguity in providing advice to key stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership when faced with conflict by bringing disagreement into the open, de-escalating tensions and orchestrating win-win solutions.
  • Demonstrates an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development, including managing fatigue and mental wellbeing.

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, Law, or IT.
  • Deep understanding of audit and risk management, including various models of delivery.
  • Well-developed project management skills involving oversight of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Professional audit or control designation (CIA, CRMA, CISA, or CFE).
  • Significant audit and/or risk experience, including a strong understanding of methodologies, approaches, and practical application.
  • Knowledge and proven experience within a specific discipline managed by BHP’s functions (Commercial, Finance, Legal, Compliance, or External Affairs).
  • Demonstrated leadership of diverse and geographically dispersed teams within a large, complex, global organisation.
  • Experience in mining, heavy manufacturing, and/or industrial industry work environments preferred.
