About the Role

The Manager Closure Planning in the Resource Centre of Excellence (RCoE) provides people leadership and delivery accountability for closure planning capability and governance across BHP.

The role ensures high-quality, consistent and risk-aware closure strategies and plans across assets, protecting long-term value and supporting BHP’s economic, social and environmental commitments through strong governance, assurance and lifecycle discipline.

Operating as a second-line technical leader, the role enables confident decision-making through independent assurance, governance oversight and trusted technical advice, while building a strong and sustainable pipeline of closure planning capability aligned to enterprise priorities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and develop a team of closure planning professionals ensuring high-quality delivery.
  • Own second-line governance and assurance for closure planning.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to assets and enterprise leaders.
  • Develop and assure integrated closure strategies across the lifecycle.
  • Identify and manage closure-related risks impacting value, safety and sustainability.
  • Lead closure cost estimation and uncertainty management.
  • Build closure capability, mentoring and succession plans.
  • Support strong value based decisions to ensure optimal outcomes for BHP.

About You

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Earth Sciences or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in mine closure and rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrated people leadership in complex technical environments.
  • Strong governance, risk and decision-quality mindset.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated improvement mindset
  • Assurance or independent review experience is desirable.
