About the Role

Hays is currently partnering with a reputable resources operator to recruit an Environmental Technician for a remote site-based role in the Northern Territory. This position will suit a practical and motivated individual with experience in environmental monitoring and field-based activities. The role will support the delivery of environmental programs, ensuring compliance with site requirements and relevant regulatory obligations. Working as part of a site-based environmental team, you will contribute to maintaining environmental standards and supporting operational teams in a dynamic mining environment.

Location and Rostering

  • Location: Northern Territory
  • Roster: 8/6 FIFO / Remote Operations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Environmental Monitoring and Sampling
  • Assist in implementing environmental monitoring programs in accordance with site requirements and management plans
  • Conduct field monitoring activities across areas such as water, dust, noise, soil and waste
  • Support the timely and accurate completion of scheduled monitoring tasks
  • Sample Collection and Data Management
  • Collect, handle and prepare environmental samples in line with established procedures
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, including chain-of-custody records
  • Coordinate sample dispatch to laboratories as required
  • Ensure accurate recording of field data and monitoring results
  • Equipment and Field Support
  • Operate and maintain environmental monitoring equipment
  • Complete routine checks and basic maintenance activities
  • Report faults or issues impacting monitoring systems
  • Inspections and Compliance Support
  • Conduct routine site inspections across infrastructure and environmental control areas
  • Support environmental compliance activities, including preparation for audits and inspections
  • Assist in maintaining site documentation and records
  • Environmental Controls and Response
  • Support implementation of environmental controls such as dust management, waste handling and spill response
  • Assist in responding to environmental incidents in line with site procedures
  • Rehabilitation and Site Activities
  • Contribute to rehabilitation and land management activities where required
  • Support general environmental maintenance and improvement initiatives

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in environmental monitoring, sampling or similar field-based roles
  • Exposure to mining, construction or remote operational environments is preferred
  • Understanding of environmental compliance and site-based controls
  • Experience handling samples and maintaining accurate documentation
  • Ability to operate field equipment and work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Relevant qualification in Environmental Monitoring, Conservation or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Current driver’s licence (manual)
  • Ability to work in a remote, site-based environment
  • Australian working rights

Desirable

  • Experience with environmental monitoring programs (e.g. water, dust, noise)
  • Exposure to resource sector operations
  • First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • Basic computer and data entry skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a site-based role requiring:

  • Regular outdoor work in varying environmental conditions
  • Travel across operational areas and uneven terrain
  • Manual handling of equipment and field gear
  • Participation in site-based safety and environmental processes
