Job Description

About the Company

At Newmont, people create the value in the metals we mine and are ambassadors in the communities where they live and work. As a team, we foster an environment in support of our people vision, where everyone belongs, thrives and is valued. We have built a diverse and inclusive workplace where our people can bring their differences to support delivering results together.

Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

This is a site-based role at Tanami Operations in the Northern Territory, working in a challenging remote environment. You will interface daily with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, and project stakeholders.

The role involves a FIFO schedule with 14/14 or 8/6 opportunities available.  Approved departure locations for the point of hire are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.

Join us and unearth your potential in a global company that is at the forefront of shaping the future of the mining industry.

Who we’re looking for!

As a Crusher Conveyor Operator Maintainer, you will play a hands‑on role in underground operations at the Tanami site, keeping crushing and conveyor systems running safely, reliably, and efficiently. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, takes pride in plant reliability, and enjoys being actively involved in troubleshooting, decision‑making, and continuous improvement. Your contribution directly supports ore movement, production performance, and site safety, making you a key part of delivering operational success day in and day out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating and monitoring the crushing and conveyor systems to maintain safe, reliable, and continuous ore flow.
  • Conducting routine inspections of conveyors, belts, rollers, chutes, guarding, and work areas to identify wear, misalignment, blockages, or hazards.
  • Responding promptly to alarms, stoppages, and process irregularities, escalating issues as required to minimise disruption to production.
  • Supporting planned and unplanned maintenance activities through isolations, shutdowns, start‑ups, and effective housekeeping to improve equipment reliability.
  • Working closely with the maintenance & mine control room teams to ensure clear communication, effective shift handovers, and safe system operation.

Capabilities Required

  • Knowledge of material handling systems and fixed plant operations in a mining environment, including conveyors, crushers, chutes and associated equipment, with familiarity using SCADA or control room systems is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and working in accordance with site specific SOPs, SWIs, and permit to work systems.
  • Hands on technical capability to inspect equipment, identify and respond to mechanical faults, belt misalignments, and blockages, and support isolations and basic troubleshooting activities.
  • Demonstrated practical problem-solving ability, with the capacity to follow procedures, apply sound judgement, and improve work methods through day to day experience, observation, and trial and error.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments, remain calm and decisive under pressure, and contribute to continuous improvement and safety outcomes.
