About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Condition Monitoring Technician to join our high‑performing team. You will play a critical role in the collection, validation, and escalation of condition monitoring data across our Newman Fixed Plant assets. You will work closely with the Condition Monitoring Supervisor, maintenance teams and reliability functions to ensure equipment defects are identified early and managed effectively.

Working an 8 days on / 6 days off roster (FIFO – Dayshift only) OR 8 days on / 20 days off roster (FIFO – Dayshift only), this hands‑on, site‑based role focuses on early fault detection and supporting plant reliability. The team is responsible for executing condition monitoring activities, maintaining data quality, and ensuring emerging equipment issues are identified and escalated in line with site standards.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering the execution and continuous improvement of the Condition Monitoring program using a variety of predictive maintenance technologies such as; vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography and ultrasonic testing. The role will also require some relevant Condition Monitoring fitting work, including installing and maintaining remote accelerometer systems.

You’ll be working across Newman Operations, which is made up of several deposits and contributes to the overall ore production of Newman Operations. The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively complete condition monitoring and Fuel, Lubricants, Air, Coolants (FLAC) tasks to meet business objectives/policies and procedures

  • In field verification to ensure the completion of routine plant equipment maintenance Safely perform routine and ad‑hoc condition monitoring activities on fixed plant equipment, including:

      • Vibration analysis
      • Ultrasonic testing
      • Belt thickness testing
      • Lubrication and basic mechanical condition inspections
  • Identify developing equipment faults and abnormal operating conditions.

  • Raise SAP notifications and defect reports aligned to condition severity and site risk profiles.

  • Escalate critical and high‑risk defects in accordance with site escalation protocols. Support follow‑up inspections and verification activities as required.

About You

We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about continuous improvement of systems/processes and equipment health, coupled with strong time management and prioritisation skills. Promoting a strong safety culture within the Fixed Plant and Asset Health teams, we always work safely and comply with BHP safety

standards, procedures, and site requirements.

The following experience/attributes will support your success in role:

  • Working autonomously with a genuine commitment to champion improvements to safety and sustainable development
  • Exposure to asset health, defect elimination, or reliability programs.
  • Strong communication skills for defect reporting and escalation.
  • Experience collecting and managing condition monitoring data.
  • Demonstrated experience working on fixed plant / Rotating equipment in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Willingness to continue learning about Condition Monitoring and attain relevant qualifications if needed.

Qualifications/skills include:

  • VCAT 2 Vibration Analysis (essential)
  • LCAT 1 Oil Analysis (essential)
  • Level 1 Ultrasonics (highly desirable)
  • VCAT 3 Vibration Analysis (desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications preferably in engineering or a relevant technical/trade qualification (desirable)
  • Experience using CSI, Emerson (MHM) and/or Dynamox (DynaPredict) vibration analysis monitoring systems/software
  • Experience installing and maintaining remote / Wireless accelerometers
  • 3D Scanning experience (advantageous)
  • Proficiency in computerised maintenance systems (Fiori, SAP)

The below skills and experience are desirable, however, we’re happy and able to support you with training and development in these areas:

  • Exposure to oil analysis
  • Cat 1 thermography qualification Ultrasonic thickness testing
  • Lazer alignment
