We are seeking an experienced Farm Hand to work within Acland Pastoral Company a mixed farming, grazing and land management enterprise located at Acland, near Oakey in QLD. Acland Pastoral Company (APC), established in 2006, manages approximately 10,000 hectares of land, including 1,400 hectares of dry land cropping and 200 hectares of irrigated cropping. Over 1,200 breeders provide weaners for our cattle backgrounding operation.
About the role:
Reporting to the APC Agriculture Manager and part of a small team, you will be enthusiastic and motivated with an interest in mixed farming operation. You will support the team in all farming activities.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working with modern machinery, takes pride in maintaining equipment, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain farm machinery for planting, spraying, spreading, and harvesting operations
- Assist with crop establishment and in-season management including spraying, fertiliser application, and irrigation where required
- Support harvest operations including header operation, chaser bin work, and grain handling
- General farm maintenance including fencing, yards, sheds, and water infrastructure
- Assist with livestock handling and feeding when required
- Conduct routine machinery servicing and basic repairs
- Maintain accurate records for farm operations and chemical use
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times
- Participate in an on‑call roster and work additional hours during peak operational periods (e.g., planting and harvest)
About You:
- Experience operating modern broadacre cropping machinery preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to carry out routine maintenance
- Chemical accreditation (ChemCert or similar) desirable
- Experience with GPS guidance and precision agriculture systems an advantage
- Livestock handling experience beneficial but not essential
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Reliable and self-motivated
- Good problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to work both independently and in a small team
