About the Role
Reporting to the Underground Project Manager, the Shift Boss is responsible for providing statutory supervision and leadership to underground mining crews, ensuring all activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with mine plans and legislative requirements.This is a hands-on leadership role where you will drive a strong safety culture, achieve production objectives, and coordinate daily underground operations while supporting the development of a high-performing workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide statutory supervision of underground mining operations during your shift.
- Lead and mentor underground crews to achieve safe and productive outcomes.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture through visible leadership and accountability.
- Ensure production and development targets are achieved in line with operational plans.
- Coordinate personnel, equipment, services, and materials to maximise shift performance.
- Conduct pre-start meetings, workplace inspections, risk assessments, and hazard reporting.
- Monitor compliance with site procedures, company standards, and relevant WA mining legislation.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with technical services and management teams to optimise underground activities.
- Complete accurate shift reports and maintain all statutory documentation and records.
Qualifications & Certifications
- Significant underground mining experience with demonstrated supervisory or Shift Boss experience.
- Current WA Shift Boss qualification (essential).
- Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, equipment, and operational processes.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- Sound understanding of WA mining legislation and statutory obligations.
- Current Manual Australian Driver's Licence.
