We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mining Engineer to lead our onsite Mine Design and Project Planning team at Fortescue’s world-class Iron Bridge Magnetite Operation. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within one of Australia’s most innovative mining operations, contributing to the delivery of safe, efficient, and value-driven mine planning outcomes. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and technically capable mining professional with strong onsite mine planning experience, responsible for delivering mining projects and mine designs while overseeing the governance of planning systems and processes.

Reporting to the Superintendent Medium Term Planning, you will lead and mentor a small onsite team at Iron Bridge, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Building and maintaining strong relationships across site operations and corporate teams will be essential to ensuring plans are aligned with budgets, forecasts, and critical operational milestones. This role is also accountable for the successful delivery of the quarterly 5-Year Mine Plan and monthly 3-Month Plan, supporting operational excellence and long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the quarterly 5-Year Mine Plan and monthly 3-Month Mine Plan
• Develop fleet strategies and mine schedules aligned with business objectives and long-term planning
• Partner with Commercial and Strategic Planning teams to support budgets, forecasts, and Life of Mine planning
• Maintain and optimise mine planning systems, block models, data analytics, and reporting accuracy
• Mentor mining engineers, identify operational risks and opportunities, and lead incident investigations as required

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
• Extensive experience in mine design and open-cut hard rock mine planning
• Proven ability to lead teams, mentor engineers, and work autonomously
• Strong focus on HSEC, including hazard management, investigations, and field engagement
• Proficiency in mine planning and scheduling software, including Vulcan or similar packages
• Excellent communication, technical writing, and cross-functional project management skills
• Innovative and analytical mindset, with experience in data analysis and reporting tools such as Power BI, Excel, and Python desirable
