Job Description
Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to join our Environment and Communities team, based in our Perth office.
In this role, you will support the delivery of environmental approvals, compliance reporting, audits, and a range of environmental initiatives. You will also provide assistance with on-site environmental activities, including rehabilitation programs, helping ensure Karara meets all environmental obligations while driving continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
To be successful in this role the following is essential:
- Degree qualification in Environment, Science or similar related to the role
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of environmental legislation, regulations and compliances including but not limited to the EP Act 1986 and Mining Act 1978
- Ideally 5 - 8 years’ experience in a similar role within a mining company or consultancy
- Knowledge and work experience in GIS and mapping software, preferably ArcMap (beneficial)
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook and Excel
- A current National Police clearance

Key Duties:
- Manage internal and external environmental licences and approvals
- Implement and support continual improvement of the Karara EMS
- Contribute to the annual environmental work plan
- Maintain environmental obligations and risk registers
- Analyse environmental data and prepare internal and external reports
- Conduct compliance audits and site inspections and implement corrective actions
- Prepare environmental approval and statutory reporting documentation
- Liaise with environmental consultants and contractors as required
- Maintain environmental documentation and provide advice to employees and contractors
- Deliver environmental presentations or training as required
- Perform other duties as directed by the Manager Environment, Water & Exploration
