Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to work on large-scale bulk materials handling equipment across mining and heavy industry?

RCR Mining Technologies (RCRMT), a leading business unit of NRW Holdings, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team based at our Head Office in Bunbury.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver robust engineering solutions for clients across Australia and internationally, working on complex mechanical plant and equipment within the bulk materials handling sector.

About the Role

Reporting to the Discipline Manager – Mechanical Engineering, you will be responsible for the design, development, verification and validation of mechanical plant and equipment in line with Australian Standards and statutory requirements.

You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, drafting teams, project delivery and commercial stakeholders to ensure high-quality, compliant and practical engineering outcomes.

This role offers exposure across the full project lifecycle — from tender support through to detailed design, verification and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engineering and detailed design scopes of work
• Perform and verify designs using FEA (ANSYS, Nastran, Strand7), first principles calculations and best practice engineering methods
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards and client specifications
• Apply Safety in Design principles
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments and constructability workshops
• Manage engineering interfaces with structural and electrical disciplines
• Review and approve engineering deliverables
• Issue and respond to Technical Queries and Non-Conformances
• Support pre-contracts and tendering activities with technical input
• Assist with labour estimates, schedules and cost inputs
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering systems and processes

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a mechanical design engineering role
• Strong mechanical design capability within heavy industry
• Demonstrated FEA competency (ANSYS, Nastran and/or Strand7)
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation
• Strong understanding of engineering processes and quality systems
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Ability to manage competing deadlines in a dynamic environment

Highly regarded:

• Experience in bulk materials handling or machine design
• Mining or resources sector experience
• Autodesk Inventor proficiency
• Tendering and estimating exposure
• Working toward CPEng or RPEng
