We are currently seeking an experienced Business Improvement Specialist to join a leading mining operation based in Newman, Western Australia, on an initial 3-6 month contract.
This opportunity is ideal for someone with a strong mining operations or execution background, preferably with supervisory experience, who has a genuine passion for continuous improvement, operational efficiency and driving positive change across site operations.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Business Improvement Lead, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of a Business Operating System (BOS) and delivering continuous improvement initiatives across site operations.
Working closely with frontline leaders, supervisors and superintendents, you will identify improvement opportunities, coach operational teams and implement practical solutions that enhance safety, productivity and efficiency.
We are looking for a hands-on, execution-focused individual who understands the realities of mining operations and can translate operational challenges into sustainable improvements.
The successful candidate will have a strong ability to influence, engage and collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of the Business Operating System (BOS) across site operations.
- Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, productivity and operational performance.
- Work closely with frontline supervisors, superintendents and operational teams to identify, prioritise and resolve operational challenges.
- Coach and support site leadership teams in continuous improvement methodologies, problem-solving and operational excellence.
- Facilitate Kaizen workshops, improvement initiatives and operational reviews to drive sustainable change.
- Develop, implement and improve Standardised Work (SW) processes across mining and maintenance operations.
- Support frontline teams in identifying inefficiencies and implementing practical improvements to daily work activities.
- Analyse operational performance data, identify trends and develop improvement opportunities.
- Assist site leaders in building continuous improvement capability and embedding best practices across departments.
- Support the use of operational improvement systems and tools, including CoreWork, BrightSpot, MyBOS, SW Field App, SW Builder and KaiNexus.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of improvement initiatives against agreed performance measures.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations to engage stakeholders and communicate improvement opportunities.
- Drive accountability, ownership and collaboration across operational teams.
- Promote a strong safety culture and a continuous improvement mindset throughout the operation.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
- Strong mining operations or execution experience - essential.
- Previous experience in a mining supervisory, frontline leadership or operational execution role - highly desirable.
- A genuine passion for continuous improvement, operational excellence and improving frontline performance.
- Demonstrated understanding of mining operations, maintenance activities or processing environments.
- Experience identifying, implementing and sustaining operational improvement initiatives.
- Exposure to Business Operating Systems (BOS), Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of Standardised Work, operational performance management and structured problem-solving.
- Strong leadership, coaching and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with frontline employees, supervisors, superintendents and senior management.
- Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to drive initiatives from identification through to implementation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment and manage competing priorities.
- Previous experience within Tier 1 mining operations will be highly regarded.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have progressed through mining operations or supervisory positions and developed a strong passion for business improvement.
You do not necessarily need to come from a dedicated Business Improvement position. We are looking for someone who understands mining execution, can identify opportunities for improvement and has the drive to make meaningful changes onsite.
