Our Opportunity

The Water Services Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Christmas Creek's water and wastewater infrastructure. You will operate and maintain treatment plants, monitor system performance, complete water quality testing and inspections, and ensure the reliable delivery of potable water and wastewater services across site. This role plays a key part in supporting operational continuity while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance and asset reliability.

Work Location

Christmas Creek – Fortescue's Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

Reporting to

Reporting to the Supervisor Operations, the Water Services Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Christmas Creek's water and wastewater infrastructure. You will operate and maintain treatment plants, monitor system performance, complete water quality testing and inspections, and ensure the reliable delivery of potable water and wastewater services across site. This role plays a key part in supporting operational continuity while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance and asset reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate potable water and wastewater treatment facilities safely.
  • Monitor treatment plant performance and system reliability.
  • Complete routine inspections, testing, and water quality sampling.
  • Perform basic maintenance and fault finding on plant equipment.
  • Respond to operational issues and plant alarms promptly.
  • Record operational data and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience operating water and wastewater treatment facilities (SBR and MBR plants).
  • Certificate III in Water Industry Operations.
  • Current Australian C Class Driver's Licence.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good level of computer and tablet skills.
