About the role
This position reports to the Underground Superintendent and is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities across the underground team, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently and in alignment with site standards, QLD statutory requirements and Glencore policies. The role provides day–to–day supervision, supports planning and scheduling, drives maintenance quality and fosters a safe, high–performance team culture.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor underground personnel to ensure safe and effective work execution.
- Promote and enforce safety standards, site procedures, risk assessments, JSEA’s and statutory requirements.
- Conduct inspections, audits, toolbox meetings, pre-starts and PASS meetings.
- Support incident reporting, investigation and corrective actions.
- Support development and execution of weekly work schedules.
- Coach, mentor and develop apprentices, trades and leading hands.
- Conduct performance reviews and support training requirements.
- Build strong internal and external relationships, including with suppliers and other departments.
You will bring the following experience
You will bring demonstrated supervisory experience within mining or heavy industry environments, supported by a strong understanding of Queensland mining statutory compliance requirements and safety management systems. You are a capable leader with proven people management skills, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to foster and maintain a positive safety culture. Your excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills allow you to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business, while your advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities enable you to identify practical solutions in complex operational environments. In addition, you have a high attention to detail, strong time management skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Qualifications Required:
- Demonstrated supervisory experience within underground mining.
- Strong understanding of QLD mining statutory compliance and safety systems.
- Current Queensland Manual Driver’s Licence.
- Current Queensland S123 Supervisor Certificate and G2 Risk Management competency are essential.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Strong leadership and people management capability.
- High-level safety focus and ability to drive a safety culture.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
- High attention to detail, good time management and a proactive approach to improvement.
