SUPT - CATEGORY MANAGER

About the role

Reporting to the Group Procurement Manager, you will provide strategic leadership across category management, sourcing, contract governance, and supplier relationship management. You will be responsible for developing and executing category strategies that unlock value, manage risk, strengthen supplier performance, and ensure continuity of supply across our operations. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will help shape procurement strategies that support both operational success and long-term business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute multi-year category strategies aligned to operational, commercial and strategic business priorities
• Identify and deliver sustainable cost savings, value creation and risk reduction initiatives
• Lead complex commercial negotiations and manage high-value supplier relationships
• Provide leadership, coaching and development to a high-performing category management team
• Partner with business leaders to drive procurement excellence and influence key sourcing decisions
• Strengthen supplier performance through effective governance, performance management and continuous improvement initiatives
• Drive best practice procurement, contracting and category management processes across the business
• Ensure compliance with procurement governance frameworks while supporting operational efficiency and supply continuity.

Required Skills & Experience

• You are a proven procurement leader with strong commercial acumen and a track record of delivering strategic sourcing and category management outcomes in complex operating environments. You bring the ability to think strategically while also driving execution, building trusted stakeholder relationships, and leading teams to achieve exceptional results.

What You'll Bring

• Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or a related discipline.
• Professional procurement accreditation such as CIPS or MCIPS (highly regarded).
• Willingness to undertake regular travel to Glencore Metals operations across Australia.
• Extensive experience in strategic sourcing, category management, and contract management.
• Strong background in mining, resources, construction, or a similarly complex industry.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex commercial negotiations and high-value procurement initiatives.
• Strong understanding of procurement governance, supplier relationship management, and commercial risk management.
