About the Role
Senior Project Engineer – Electrical role with FIFO requirement on major energy and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, leads technical outcomes, and is comfortable working across multiple sites. You must be open to FIFO, as projects span across all Australian states.
As the Senior Project Engineer – Electrical, you will be responsible for the conceptual and detailed engineering of HV substations, solar farms, battery energy storage systems, and electrical balance‑of‑plant (BOP). You’ll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
This role involves collaborating with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to provide technical direction and leadership through all project phases—from planning and procurement to commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct complex engineering work with minimal supervision
- Provide specialist engineering advice to internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Coordinate and supervise multi‑discipline design activities
- Manage interfaces between engineering disciplines and external stakeholders
- Develop ITPs, work packs and review electrical test sheets
- Support commissioning teams and troubleshoot technical queries
- Ensure design‑for‑construction principles are met
- Review project scope, costs, scheduling and provide timely reporting to PMs and Commercial teams
- Assist with procurement, documentation control and monthly client reporting
- Support on-site quality assurance and adherence to company systems and procedures
- Maintain a strong safety-first mindset at all times
- Participate in pre‑start meetings, risk assessments, and incident reporting
- Use appropriate PPE and promote safe working practices
- Support WHS documentation and compliance as required
- Provide mentorship and supervision to technical staff
- Comply with UGL policies including HSE, Code of Conduct, IT, HR, EEO, and Quality Systems
- Participate in training, development, and site inductions
- Present professionally and maintain a well‑organised working area
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (Essential)
- Strong experience in HV electrical systems, substations, and power systems
- Proven leadership or supervisory ability
- Demonstrated experience in “Design‑for‑Construction” environments
- Experience managing technical teams and subcontractors
- Solid understanding of AS9001 Quality Systems
- Current valid driver’s licence
- Willingness to travel across states and undertake FIFO as required
