The Opportunity
MinRes is seeking a capable, operationally minded Senior Hydrogeologist to coordinate hydrogeological execution and technical coordination activities across our Central Pilbara Iron Ore operational hub.
Reporting directly to the Principal Hydrogeologist, this role serves as the critical technical bridge between water strategy and on-the-ground site execution. You will be responsible for translating long-term water plans into practical, safe, and compliant site-level delivery — covering dewatering systems, groundwater monitoring, drilling programmes, and operational support across multiple Central Pilbara hub sites.
You will lead and mentor Site/Operations Hydrogeologists, working closely with mine planning, operations, processing, approvals, and external consultants to ensure water activities are delivered to the highest standard.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver hub hydrogeological activities in line with the Principal Hydrogeologist's strategy and priorities, translating LOM, five-year, and two-year water plans into executable site-level scopes.
- Support delivery of dewatering strategies and pit flood readiness across Central Pilbara hub sites, ensuring dewatering systems meet production requirements.
- Develop and manage detailed drilling programmes in line with approved scopes, including targets, designs, sequencing, and QA/QC, coordinating with Drilling teams for efficient execution.
- Develop and manage test pumping programmes to measure borehole performance and aquifer parameters, informing infrastructure design, hydrogeological assessments and groundwater modelling.
- Ensure groundwater monitoring programmes are implemented as designed and to standard, maintaining data quality, telemetry availability, and timely data capture.
- Support the Principal Modeller by providing high-quality data, assumptions, and operational feedback; review modelling outputs and ensure they are understood and applied at site level.
- Provide hydrogeological inputs into mine planning cycles, including two-year and operational schedules.
- Support delivery of approval conditions, licences, and statutory reporting requirements, assisting with approvals gap identification, data provision, and documentation.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Site/Operations Hydrogeologists, promoting strong safety, quality, and risk-based decision-making.
- Identify operational risks early, escalate issues with recommended mitigations.
- Maintain effective coordination with Operations, Mine Planning, Water Engineering, and the central Modelling function.
What is required?
- Tertiary qualifications in Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
- 7-10 years’ experience in groundwater resource management, mine dewatering operations, and groundwater monitoring within a mining or resource project context.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategic water plans into practical site-level execution across multiple operational sites.
- Strong working knowledge of WA water legislation, rights, licensing processes, and regulatory frameworks, including DWER protocols.
- Experience managing and executing drilling programmes, including bore design, QA/QC, and completion reporting.
- Competence in interpreting hydrogeological and groundwater modelling outputs and applying them to site operations and mine planning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, including site hydrogeologists and field technicians.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams including Operations, Mine Planning, Approvals, and external consultants.
- Excellent attention to data quality, compliance, and risk management in a fast-paced operational environment.
