Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Underground Hardrock

About the Role

Stellar Recruitment is proud to partner with Glencore to recruit a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for the George Fisher Mine, one of Australia's premier underground zinc, lead and silver mining operations. This is a rare opportunity to join a technically advanced underground mine with a long operational future, where you'll lead the geotechnical function and influence mine-wide strategy. Reporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical, you'll provide technical leadership across underground operations while mentoring and developing a high-performing geotechnical team. Working closely with Technical Services, Planning and Operations, you'll drive best-practice geotechnical engineering, support safe production, and contribute to the ongoing optimisation of one of Australia's most complex underground mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Geotechnical Engineers, Graduates and Technicians.
• Provide technical leadership across underground mine design, stope sequencing and extraction strategies.
• Review and approve complex ground support designs and geotechnical assessments.
• Oversee geotechnical monitoring programs, instrumentation and risk management systems.
• Lead QA/QC programs for ground support, paste backfill and rehabilitation.
• Provide geotechnical input into short, medium and long-term mine planning.
• Work collaboratively with Operations and Technical Services to optimise safety, productivity and recovery.
• Ensure compliance with geotechnical management plans and Queensland mining legislation.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across geotechnical systems and processes.

About You

• A degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 6 years' underground hard rock mining experience, or 2 years' underground hard rock experience with 6+ years' combined mining experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring or supervising geotechnical professionals.
• Strong technical capability using Deswik, Leapfrog, Rocscience and other geotechnical software.
• Extensive knowledge of underground rock mechanics, mine design, ground support systems and geotechnical risk management.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A proactive commitment to safety, innovation and continuous improvement.
