Senior Civil Engineer

The Opportunity

At Downer, we are committed to delivering essential infrastructure that supports communities across Australia. Due to continued growth within our Energy & Utilities business, we are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our Power team.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership and deliver high quality civil engineering solutions for substation and transmission infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for undertaking civil design activities, managing project deliverables, mentoring team members, engaging with stakeholders and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the civil design of utility substation and transmission infrastructure projects
• Developing substation layouts, earthworks, drainage and oil containment systems
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to Civil Designers
• Preparing scopes of work, bill of quantities and procurement packages
• Supporting project planning, reporting, RFIs and variations
• Ensuring designs meet client requirements, industry standards and legislative obligations
• Conducting constructability reviews and value engineering assessments
• Managing subcontractor deliverables and reviewing progress claims
• Promoting and demonstrating Downer's Zero Harm culture across all project activities.

What We're Looking For

To be successful, you will bring significant experience delivering complex civil engineering solutions within the power sector, along with strong technical capability and leadership skills.

You will possess:

• Qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience delivering civil design for substation and transmission infrastructure projects
• Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, access roads, oil containment and erosion control systems
• Experience using industry recognised design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation
• Sound understanding of transmission and distribution network infrastructure
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills
• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring technical teams
• Excellent organisational and time management capabilities
• Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
