Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Security Engineer in Canberra to contribute to design, deployment and sustainment of security solutions with Defence’s cyber command.

About the Role

We currently have an opportunity for a Security Engineer in Canberra to contribute to design, deployment and sustainment of security solutions with Defence’s cyber command.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploying and configuring compute, storage and network infrastructure in secure, air-gapped datacentres to support SIEM applications.
• Managing and architecting Kubernetes clusters using Rancher Kubernetes Engine (RKE2), OpenShift Container Platform and Azure Kubernetes Service for secure, containerised application deployments.
• Developing and maintaining Windows-based audit collection agents and endpoint monitoring software.
• Designing and implementing data ingestion, normalisation and enrichment pipelines using Apache NiFi to process large volumes of structured and semi-structured audit data for SIEM consumption.
• Managing Elastic Stack indexes, performing reindexing activities and supporting data analysis and visualisation using Kibana and Stroom.
• Providing expert advice on ICT security compliance and risk mitigation, mentoring team members and contributing to the development of technical documentation and design standards.

About You / Requirements

• Previous experience working in a highly complex environment with Defence or Federal Government.
• Extensive experience in Linux and Kubernetes preferably in deployed environments.
• Ability to provide advice on ICT Security compliance and risk mitigation.
• Experience as a Data Transport Specialist, including secure data pipelines and data flow monitoring.
• Experience working with Stroom (data processing / log analytics platform).
• Experience in cyber security operations, incident response, or insider threat investigation.
• Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold a AGSVA Clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
