About the Company

Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Scrum Master in Canberra to work on COSPO projects**.

About the Role

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate Agile delivery practices, ensuring consistent application of Scrum and SAFe, running all ceremonies, and coaching teams on Agile principles, backlog refinement and high‑quality story creation.

  • Support planning and execution, working closely with the Product Delivery Manager to break down EPICs, features and stories, track progress, manage risks/blockers and maintain strong day‑to‑day alignment.

  • Manage Agile delivery metrics and tooling, including velocity, predictability, burndown, capacity planning and maintaining high‑quality JIRA hygiene to support governance and reporting.

  • Identify and resolve impediments, proactively managing team‑level and systemic risks, dependencies and issues in collaboration with the RTE, PMO and stakeholders.

  • Drive continuous improvement and team performance, supporting PI Planning, ART‑level ceremonies, Inspect & Adapt activities, and helping build high‑performing, self‑managing teams aligned with COSPO and Defence requirements.

About You / Requirements

  • Strong Agile delivery expertise, including deep knowledge of Scrum and SAFe, facilitation of Agile ceremonies, and coaching teams in Agile principles, backlog refinement and high‑quality user story creation.
  • Proven planning and coordination capability, able to break down EPICs/features/stories, support sprint and PI planning, manage dependencies and maintain close alignment with Product Delivery Managers.
  • Ability to analyse and manage Agile delivery metrics, including velocity, predictability, burndown and capacity planning, to support transparency, forecasting and continuous improvement.
  • High proficiency with JIRA and Agile governance requirements, ensuring backlog structure, workflow accuracy, reporting readiness and alignment with COSPO and Defence security frameworks.
  • Strong problem‑solving and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with the ability to identify and escalate impediments, support ART‑level ceremonies, drive continuous improvement and help build high‑performing, self‑managing teams.
  • Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with ITAR requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
