About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Rail Transport Supervisor to join the Rail Operations Mines team. Reporting to the Rail Operations Superintendent, this FIFO role is based on site and will work on a 7-days, 7-nights, 14-off FIFO roster.

Working closely with our partners and customers across Rail, Integrated Operations and WAIO mines, you will be responsible for leading a team of Rail Transport Technicians servicing Train Loadouts (TLOs) and operating trains on the mainline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of mainline train drivers and support staff to safely deliver WAIO’s daily railing schedule on our world-leading heavy-haul network.
  • Display a high level of care for people, ensuring your team feel supported and empowered to bring their best every day.
  • Foster a positive and engaged culture within your team and make your depot a great place to work.
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with our Rail Rulebook, Rail Safety Management Plan, WAIO HSE Management System, BHP Global Standards and Rail Safety National Law.
  • Actively control risk in the workplace through Field Leadership, In-Field Verification activities, workplace inspections and task-based risk management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the safety, productivity and culture of the depot, and work collaboratively with teams across Rail and the broader business to implement them.
  • Ensure all hazards and events are identified and correctly reported in compliance with Company and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct high-quality event investigations, identifying and implementing corrective actions.
  • Respond to deviations and breakdowns by collaboratively problem-solving with teams across Rail Operations, Rail Control, Rollingstock, Maintenance and Scheduling to safely recover from unplanned events.

About You

  • An overriding commitment to safety, with the ability to effectively identify and manage risk in a Rail Operations environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships and trust with peers and leaders.
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced operational setting where overcoming challenges and problem-solving are part of every day.
  • Comfortable working in remote environments with a high level of autonomy.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and confidently exercise good judgement when making decisions that protect people while supporting the productivity of the railroad.
  • Sound computer literacy, confidence using standard applications such as MS Word and Excel, and the ability to learn and use BHP’s computer-based scheduling, reporting and work management systems.
  • Experience as a Train Driver, Live Run Coordinator or Rail Operations leader is highly desirable.
