Project Engineer

About the Role

Northen Star Mining Services is offering an exciting opportunity for an Underground Project Engineer to join our team, based at the Operations Centre in Kalgoorlie and working across our underground gold mining operations in Western Australia.

This position is flexible for the right candidate, offering an attractive remuneration package, lifestyle roster and the option for either FIFO ex Perth or Residential Kalgoorlie location, with a relocation package on offer.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for a large variety of projects. This includes managing operations reporting, leading optimisation projects, contributing to business strategy, conducting budget and cost analysis, and coordinating key projects across multiple operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and implement process optimisation initiatives from inception to completion, focusing on enhancing productivity, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with company goals.
• Work closely with the Operations Manager, Area Managers, and Project Managers to ensure collaboration and project alignment across sites and departments.
• Assist in the reporting and analysis of NSMS performance, identifying key trends and areas for further improvement.
• Manage underground contractors for project work, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
• Monitor and contribute to the management of key performance indicators (KPIs) for each NSMS division, driving continuous performance improvements and productivity.
• Assist in the development and management of annual budgets, identifying potential areas for cost savings.
• Contribute to risk management strategies, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by conducting regular site reviews.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
• Minimum 3 years Underground Mining Experience
• WA Underground Supervisor’s Certificate of Competency.
• Current “C” Class Western Australian Driver's Licence.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and report on operational data, identifying trends and areas for optimisation and efficiency improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring project alignment and effective communication across sites and departments.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present ideas, initiatives, and complex data clearly to senior management and other key stakeholders.
• Proactive and hands-on approach to Project Engineering, with the flexibility to visit site operations as needed to oversee project implementation and performance.

• Bachelor of Mining Engineering
• WA Underground Supervisor’s Certificate of Competency
• WA "C" Class Driver’s Licence
