Project Engineer

About the Role

Downer is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Water team and support the successful delivery of construction projects across South East Queensland.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide technical expertise across the project lifecycle, helping plan, execute, monitor and control projects to achieve strong safety, quality, commercial and client outcomes.

You will work closely with project teams, supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers and clients, providing technical guidance and building collaborative relationships to deliver practical, value for money solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice to project delivery and wider programme teams.
• Support project planning, design reviews, constructability assessments and value engineering.
• Monitor project performance, schedules, budgets, costs and forecasts.
• Manage procurement activities, subcontractor engagement, progress claims and variations.
• Develop scopes of work and support subcontract agreements.
• Manage project risks, delays, extensions of time and contract variations.
• Support quality outcomes and ensure projects meet client, community, environmental and legislative requirements.
• Champion Zero Harm and ensure appropriate safety standards, procedures and controls are implemented.
• Build strong relationships and trust with clients, programme stakeholders, suppliers and subcontractors.

About You / Requirements

To be successful in this opportunity, you will bring:

• An Engineering qualification in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• More than three years of project engineering experience within the water or wastewater industry in South East Queensland.
• Experience managing subcontractors and developing scopes of work.
• Experience developing subcontract agreements.
• Demonstrated financial management and reporting capability, including budgeting.
• Demonstrated experience developing and managing project schedules.
• A strong focus on achieving quality outcomes in project delivery.
• Clear and concise communication skills.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• The ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform effectively in a changing, high-pressure project environment.
• A genuine commitment to Zero Harm and safe project delivery.
