Principal Instrumentation Engineer

About the Company

An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Instrumentation Engineer to support a large-scale industrial processing operation. This is a full-time, site-based contract position offering exposure to sustaining capital works, brownfield modifications, shutdown projects and operational improvement initiatives.

About the Role

• Lead instrumentation engineering activities across a portfolio of brownfield and sustaining capital projects.
• Define project scopes and manage scope changes through established project controls processes.
• Prepare and review technical documentation including: Datasheets, Engineering specifications, Scopes of work, Design calculations, Work instructions, Technical reports, Design drawings.
• Provide engineering support during procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
• Review technical submissions and participate in vendor and contractor evaluations.
• Monitor engineering deliverables, budgets and project progress.
• Participate in risk assessments and ensure safety-in-design principles are applied throughout project delivery.
• Conduct technical reviews and quality checks of engineering deliverables.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, construction and project stakeholders.
• Mentor and support engineering team members while promoting technical excellence.
• Assist in resolving technical issues and delivering practical engineering solutions.

About You / Requirements

• Degree qualified in Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronic or related Engineering discipline.
• Eligibility for professional membership with a recognised engineering institution.
• Extensive experience delivering instrumentation and control systems projects within mining, minerals processing, heavy industry, manufacturing or processing environments.
• Strong brownfield project experience.
• Proven capability leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
• Experience managing project interfaces between engineering disciplines, operations and construction teams.
• Strong knowledge of project delivery from concept studies through to commissioning and handover.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
