Your Contribution
As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Caving Studies, you'll provide geotechnical and hydrogeological expertise across Newmont's global portfolio of caving projects, supporting studies from early-stage concepts through to execution readiness. You'll play a key role in managing technical risks, overseeing investigation programs, and integrating geotechnical outcomes into project and mine design decisions.
As Part of Our Team, You Will
- Support the development and execution of geotechnical and hydrogeological study programs across multiple caving projects.
- Manage consultants, contractors, and technical work packages to deliver study outcomes safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Coordinate technical activities and key interfaces between project teams, site personnel, and subject matter experts.
- Oversee geotechnical and hydrogeological investigation and data collection programs, ensuring reliable and high-quality datasets.
- Provide technical input into geotechnical risk management, mine planning, cave design, infrastructure decisions, and project evaluations
Prerequisites for Success in This Role
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering will be highly regarded.
- Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering within mining, underground operations, or project study environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or leading geotechnical aspects of caving studies and underground mining projects.
- Strong knowledge of cave mechanics, rock mass characterization, geotechnical investigations, hydrogeology, and geotechnical risk management.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams, specialist consultants, and geotechnical data management platforms such as Leapfrog and AcQuire.

- Preferred location is Melbourne, with candidates in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Northern Territory, and North America also considered.

- Remote working arrangements may be considered, with periodic travel to project sites and field investigation programs required.
- Work closely with study managers, technical specialists, site teams, and external consultants to support world-class caving projects.
