About the Role

Thiess is currently seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Training Manager for a permanent role at our Lake Vermont Project in Dysart.

Based on-site, you will be on a 5/2 4/3 roster and report to the Project Manager; you will drive safety strategies and initiatives that cultivate and sustain a project culture of continuous improvement in safety.

 Your hands on approach, clear focus and effective leadership will contribute to the implementation of project safety management plans

 Motivate people to ensure ownership of healthy & safety across all levels of the project as well as to develop and ensure the effectiveness of the health & safety system.

 Oversee a team of Health, Safety and Training professionals ensuring work is delivered to a high standard, and in line with legislation.

 Lead the safety culture on site to ensure the safety of all persons on site

 Manage Projects and budgets to deadlines

Key Responsibilities

• Influence and provide support to your peers in order to achieve our vision of every safe every day.
• Your 'hands on' approach, clear focus and effective leadership will contribute to the implementation of project safety management plans
• Motivate people to ensure ownership of healthy & safety across all levels of the project as well as to develop and ensure the effectiveness of the health & safety system.
• Oversee a team of Health, Safety and Training professionals ensuring work is delivered to a high standard, and in line with legislation.
• Lead the safety culture on site to ensure the safety of all persons on site
• Manage Projects and budgets to deadlines

About You / Requirements

• Previous experience in a senior role and relevant tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and/or Environmental Management are essential, as is your ability to understand workplace risk. 3 - 5 years9; experience in a similar role
• Previous experience in managing both the health and safety and environmental risks of a business would be highly valued.
• Demonstrated ability to lead strategy and influence change with top level management is required.
• Minimum Diploma in OHS and/or Cert IV WH&S
• Demonstrated experience in open pit mine operations
• Sound knowledge of QLD OHS legislation and mine regulations

Qualifications & Certifications

• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
• Certificate IV in WH&S
• Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and/or Environmental Management
