About the Role:
At BHP, we are committed to fostering a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace. We are currently seeking an experienced Hygiene Specialist to join our WA Iron Ore (WAIO) operations, supporting the identification, assessment and management of occupational hygiene risks across site.
In this role, you will provide specialist occupational hygiene advice and support to ensure the health and wellbeing of our workforce. You will work closely with site leadership and operational teams, contributing to effective exposure control strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Identifying, assessing and managing occupational hygiene hazards, including noise, dust, gases, heat stress, asbestos, chemicals and biological agents.
- Completing verification activities for site Health Management Plans and exposure control strategies.
- Managing unexpected hygiene events, including hazard assessments and recommending immediate corrective actions to protect worker health.
- Providing expert advice and coaching to leaders and teams on occupational hygiene risks and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting and executing site monitoring programs, including contractor management and ad hoc sampling activities.
- Managing occupational hygiene data within the Cority system to ensure high-quality data and accurate reporting.
- Supporting hygiene improvement projects across multiple sites.
- Fulfilling statutory appointments as Noise Officer and Mine Air Quality Officer for site(s).
- Consistently complying with safety standards, procedures and ways of working.
About You
You will be an experienced occupational hygiene professional with a strong safety mindset and the confidence to influence at all levels of the business.
Mandatory requirements:
- Qualifications required to be appointed as a statutory Noise Officer and Mine Air Quality Officer.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in occupational hygiene.
Desirable attributes:
- Degree qualification in Occupational Hygiene, Health Science, or another relevant science-based discipline.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across operational and leadership teams.
- High attention to detail and demonstrated capability in managing and analysing large data sets.
- Proven commitment to personal wellbeing and a willingness to speak up to protect the health of others.
- Membership with the AIOH is advantageous.
