Westgold is seeking an experienced Manager Health and Safety to champion safety excellence across our MGO – Bluebird operations on a permanent 4:3 roster. This is a pivotal leadership role supporting the General Manager – Operations, ensuring the effective implementation of Westgold’s Mine Safety Management System and providing expert guidance to operational teams.

About the Role
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach and mentor WHS personnel across the operation.
- Manage the site’s medical and emergency response capability.
- Ensure operational leaders understand and meet WHS statutory requirements.
- Support the site team in applying effective risk management processes.
Planning & Strategy
- Implement Westgold’s Annual WHS Strategic Plan.
- Develop internal audit and inspection schedules.
- Maintain the site Risk Register and training processes.
- Prepare the annual WHS operational budget.
- Develop and implement site‑specific WHS procedures as required.
Performance, Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee WHS statutory reporting and compliance requirements.
- Identify trends and implement programs to address incident patterns.
- Conduct and review incident investigations and ensure timely close‑out.
- Manage ChemAlert, INX systems, workers compensation processes, and LMS training data.
- Attend and contribute to safety meetings and daily pre‑starts.
About You
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and mining industry standards.
- Experienced in developing WHS policies, procedures, and improvement programs.
- Skilled in risk assessment and implementation of risk management strategies.
- Strong operational understanding of mining environments and critical controls.
- Incident investigation experience (ICAM highly regarded).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong leadership and coaching capability.
- Ability to analyse WHS data and drive meaningful improvement.
Qualifications – Essential
- Tertiary or Diploma qualification in Work Health and Safety.
- Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue (including BG4).
- Certificate IV in Health Care or equivalent.
- HLTPAT005 – Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing.
- Current C‑Class driver’s licence.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar WHS role within mining.
Desirable
- Statutory Supervisor qualification.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- ICAM investigation certification.
