Newmont
Job Description
Workplace Type: Onsite
About Newmont
Newmont produces metals the world needs — safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.
About Cadia
Cadia is a major gold and copper mining operation in central New South Wales, about 25 kilometres from the city of Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. The site is known for the Cadia East underground mine — one of the world’s largest gold deposits — which uses innovative block caving methods to produce gold doré and gold-rich copper concentrate. Unlike remote mines, Cadia is a residential (drive-in, drive-out) operation where many employees live with their families in nearby communities, enjoying the Orange region’s excellent lifestyle and amenities.
Cadia’s team has a collaborative culture built around safety, innovation and community partnership. We proudly support local towns through jobs and in-kind contributions and even run an Indigenous Buddy Programme to welcome and mentor new Indigenous employees. Working at Cadia gives you all the growth opportunities of a Tier-1 mine within a friendly regional setting — a place where you can advance your skills, be home with family, and contribute to both Newmont’s success and the prosperity of local communities.
Your Impact
As Lead Social Performance, you’ll provide leadership for Social Performance programmes at Cadia, protecting the operation’s social licence and managing social risk. You’ll lead the execution of Cadia’s stakeholder engagement plan and deliver community outcomes, while supporting engagement associated with future project approvals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support and develop the Social Performance team, fostering a positive culture and enabling the successful delivery of project and operational plans.
- Own Cadia’s Social Performance risk profile, including the identification, mitigation and escalation of material community and stakeholder risks.
- Oversee the execution of Cadia’s Social Performance objectives, stakeholder map and engagement plan.
- Interface with local government, community groups, Traditional Owner representatives and other key stakeholders.
- Govern Social Performance programmes, assurance activities and resources while supporting stakeholder engagement for site and project approvals aligned to Newmont Values and Standards.
Prerequisites for Success in This Role
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, with the ability to foster an inclusive, accountable and high-performing team culture.
- Senior experience in Social Performance, Community Relations, Communications, Sustainability or External Relations within mining, resources or another complex heavy-industry environment.
- Strong capability in community risk, stakeholder engagement, social impact, Indigenous engagement, cultural heritage and approvals obligations.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships and navigate complex issues involving government, communities and Traditional Owner representatives.
- Practical knowledge of relevant New South Wales legislation, supported by experience working within established social performance standards and governance frameworks.
Your Work Environment
This permanent full-time position is based at Newmont’s Cadia operation near Orange, New South Wales, and is offered on a 5/2–4/3 site roster. Reporting to the Director Social Performance, you will lead a team of five and collaborate closely with site leadership, Environment, Farms and Communications teams, as well as external community and government stakeholders. Domestic relocation support may be considered, including for visa holders depending on the successful candidate’s experience and suitability.
