About the Role
Laboratory Technician - Asphalt | Hope Valley & Gosnells, WA
Bring your lab experience to Downer and play a key role in the quality of the asphalt behind WA's major infrastructure. This is a hands-on materials testing role that splits your time between our NATA-accredited labs and live project sites, where you'll core and sample the work as it goes down.
What the job looks like
- Test asphalt, bitumen, aggregates and related road construction materials to Australian Standards, MRWA specifications and WA Test Methods
- Prepare samples, run tests, record results and maintain accurate records under our NATA / ISO 17025 quality system
- Head out to site regularly to core and sample on live projects, working alongside paving crews
- Monitor asphalt product quality and support quality control across production and paving
- Keep lab equipment calibrated, maintained and operated safely
- Assist with investigations into product performance and test results as required
- Take part in toolbox talks, safety initiatives and continuous improvement
- Work collaboratively with production, paving and operational teams
About You / Requirements
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques, Construction Materials Testing or a related qualification
- Previous experience in asphalt, construction materials testing or a lab environment
- Current driver's licence and General Construction Induction (White) Card
- Knowledge of asphalt testing methods, Australian Standards and quality assurance processes
- Strong attention to detail with accurate record-keeping and reporting
- Comfortable with physical, outdoor work and site-based sampling
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to safety and Downer's Zero Harm principles
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with WA Test Methods and MRWA specifications
Qualifications & Certifications
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques, Construction Materials Testing or a related qualification
- Current driver's licence
- General Construction Induction (White) Card
