Build your career as an Intern Power Supply at Bell Bay, working in a smelter environment where safety, discipline and precision matter every day. We’re looking for penultimate year or 2nd or 3rd year students studying a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Power System Engineering, Mechatronics or Electrical & Electronics Engineering degrees with a strong electrical/power systems focus who want to understand how complex industrial systems operate and how small improvements can deliver meaningful results. At Bell Bay, you’ll work closely with experienced professionals, gain exposure to metallurgical processes, and develop the skills needed to support and improve a continuous processing operation. This is an opportunity to grow technical capability, build confidence, and start your career in an environment that values learning and real‑world impact.

About the program

Our Intern Program offers you the chance to help shape Rio Tinto from within. The 12-week Summer Internship Program provides hands-on experience, with the potential to secure a graduate position upon completion.

Where you will be working

Our Bell Bay Aluminium smelter began operating in 1955 and holds a unique place in Tasmanian and Australian history as the first aluminium smelter in the Southern Hemisphere. Based approximately 50 kilometres from Launceston in Northern Tasmania, the smelter produces primary aluminium products. We have a long and proud history in Tasmania of supporting our community and are committed to building enduring relationships built on mutual respect, collaboration, and genuine partnership.

Eligibility

  • Intern Program – penultimate year or students in 2nd or 3rd year
  • Have the right to work in Australia or New Zealand (citizens, permanent residents, student or postgraduate work visa holders)
