Job Description

About Us

PYBAR - a Thiess Company, is a mining services provider with core competencies in underground hard rock mining. With origins dating back to 1993, our success is based on safe, rapid underground development and consistent, reliable production. We deliver a range of projects, from large established mining operations to greenfield developments across Australia. The services we provide range from mine development, production, cable bolting and drilling, raise boring, shotcreting and fleet.

The Opportunity

Are you a data professional who enjoys building the pipelines and models that turn raw data into insight people can act on? PYBAR Mining Services is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our growing ICT team based in Orange, NSW. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our operational business units and the data platforms and reporting solutions they rely on, taking ownership of PYBAR's data warehouse, data pipelines and reporting, including the data that flows from our core business systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business where the role has the potential to evolve and expand in line with PYBAR's continued growth. As the organisation develops, there will be scope to broaden your responsibilities, contribute to key ICT initiatives, and play an integral role in shaping how PYBAR uses its data to run its operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain PYBAR's data warehouse and Power BI environment to deliver consistent, accurate and decision-ready reporting and analytics
  • Engineer and maintain the data pipelines and integrations that load data from our core business and operational systems into the data warehouse
  • Modernise PYBAR's reporting by migrating legacy reporting platforms, including SSRS & Qlik Sense, to Power BI
  • Design, maintain and optimise SQL Server views and data models that support reporting, analytics and operational decision-making
  • Provide reporting support and engineering for our business systems, resolving data and reporting issues and enhancing reports as business needs change
  • Work with Operations, Finance, Plant, HR, Safety and site teams to turn reporting requirements into dashboards, reports and consistent measures, and to improve the underlying business processes using BPMN and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Own and administer the SQL Server databases that support the data platform and reporting, ensuring availability, security, performance and data integrity so the business can trust the data
  • Work with sites to improve the quality of data captured in site-based systems and to uplift site-based reporting
  • Act as the primary liaison with vendors, consultants and internal subject matter experts on data and reporting matters
  • Identify and manage data and reporting risks, maintain documentation, and support audit, compliance and change management activities

About You

You are an experienced data professional with a strong focus on data quality, accuracy and attention to detail. You have advanced SQL Server skills (including database administration, performance tuning, data modelling and reporting views), strong experience building data pipelines and data warehouses using Azure Data Factory and Azure SQL, and strong experience developing reporting and analytics in Power BI and SSRS.

Just as importantly, you can analyse business processes and translate reporting and data requirements into solutions that work for the people using them. You build productive relationships across the business, take ownership of outcomes, and are always looking for ways to simplify and improve how things are done.

Experience migrating legacy reporting platforms to modern BI solutions is highly regarded, as well as extracting and modelling data from ERP and operational systems, working in mining or construction environments, or formal training or certification in Business Process Management (BPMN).
