The opportunity
A rare opportunity has become available to work on some of Downer’s most crucial Power Projects. We are now seeking an experienced Construction Director to lead, plan, direct and control the design and construction delivery of major transmission line and substation infrastructure projects, through assigned team members. Responsible for the successful completion of the project, in accordance with Zero Harm objectives, client requirements, quality, time and costs constraints to achieve profit objectives. The successful incumbent can envision themselves attending to duties such as:
What you’ll do
- Manage all delivery aspects of projects from site and team-setup to handover through the application of Downer Project Management tools and systems
- Develop and review design, environmental, community and construction planning and monitor progress of allocated projects to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost estimates
- Act as Deputy to the Project Director
- Provide accurate monthly accounts and production reports on the performance of the project
- Liaise with project managers and other departments to ensure that resources (equipment, labour & staff) are fully utilised
- Provide the leadership required to ensure the changes arising from the implementation of new strategies, policies/procedures and initiatives are effectively managed
- Resource and develop an effective, appropriately skilled and empowered team able to deliver the required services and demand of the wider organisation

What we’re looking for
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in the engineering and/or construction industry
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position managing major project delivery, preferably within power projects
- Engineering degree plus PMBOK and/or CPPD accreditation preferable
- Management experience (general and operational) with capability to develop strategic / business / project plans and delivery responsibility
- Solid understanding and demonstration of successful Project Directorship and Project Management skills
- Experience in researching, analysing and understanding complex information to develop and implement business solutions
- Working knowledge and understanding of OH&S, Business Management Systems/Standards and employee relations legislation
- Ability to work on site, rosters can be flexible
