Company Description:Anglo American Steelmaking Coal Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia. Job Description:We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the CHPP Operations team at Capcoal Mine. Reporting to the CHPP Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent, this is a hands‑on plant engineering role with involvement from front‑end planning through to execution. You will work across sustaining capital, shutdown preparation, reliability improvements, and asset upgrades, providing practical, well‑considered engineering solutions in a safe and cost-effective manner.Key responsibilities include:Identifying, scoping, planning, and delivering mechanical improvement and sustaining capital projects across the CHPP and materials handling systemsProviding front‑end engineering input into shutdowns, defect elimination, and asset improvement initiativesSupporting mechanical breakdown investigations, repairs, and contribute to the development of preventative strategies to improve reliability and eliminate failure modesPerforming engineering calculations and assessments to support safe, efficient equipment repairs, upgrades, and modificationsProviding engineering oversight and support for structural repairs, including engagement with RPEQs for sign‑off where requiredManaging the project lifecycle from concept and scope development, through design, tendering, execution, and close‑outCoordinating site teams and external contractors to safely deliver project outcomesApplying site project management processes including governance, risk management, progress reporting, and stakeholder communicationProviding visible leadership and mentoring, ensuring engineering standards, procedures, and safe work practices are consistently applied Qualifications:To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:A bachelor of Mechanical Engineer or equivalent qualification3+ years’ experience in a fixed plant or processing environment such as CHPP, minerals processing, aluminium, mining or similar heavy industryDemonstrated experience working on mechanical asset improvements, repairs, and projects within an operating plant.SAP experience is advantageousAbility to work autonomously, whilst collaborating effectively with operations, maintenance and project teams Additional information:Monday to Friday role (with potential for a 9‑day fortnight)Full‑time permanent positionSuitable for Residential, FIFO (company funded flights) and DIDO candidates12% superannuation contributionDiscounted gym membership (50% off)What we offer When you join Anglo American, you can expect to enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package and a range of flexible work arrangements that support the balance of work, family and individual circumstances.
