Job Description

Undergraduate Engineer - 4 Days Per Week - Chatswood

3rd or 4th year studying Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical Engineering

UGL delivers some of Australia’s most critical infrastructure projects across transport, energy and utilities. One of our key current projects is the North East Link (NEL) in Melbourne, a major piece of infrastructure that will connect the M80 Ring Road to the Eastern Freeway via 6.5km of twin tunnels, helping improve traffic flow across the city.

UGL is responsible for delivering the Operations Management Control System (OMCS), the technology that operators will use to monitor traffic, manage incidents and keep the motorway running safely and efficiently.

Why this role

  • Working alongside experienced engineers.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to how systems are tested and delivered before going live.
  • Build skills that are highly relevant to careers in engineering and major projects.

About the role

We’re looking for an Undergraduate Engineer to join the team for 6 months through to December 2026 with an immediate start required. The role will be based full-time in the office at Chatswood, supporting the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) team on the NEL OMCS project.

You’ll be helping test systems before they’re deployed, supporting the team with day-to-day activities, documentation and coordination. This is very much a learning-on-the-job role, so attitude and willingness to get involved are key.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide general engineering support to the FAT team.
  • Assist with documentation, test records and tracking activities.
  • Support the coordination of testing activities.
  • Use tools to include Excel and Word to help organise and report information.

About you

  • Currently studying 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor of Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Available to start immediately and work at least 4 days per week in Chatswood.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong willingness to learn and get involved.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
