Job Statement
GMS is seeking an experienced Open Pit Training Advisor to play a key role in building capability across our surface mining teams. If you’re passionate about safe, efficient open pit operations and enjoy developing people to operate at their best, this is an opportunity to influence a growing site from the ground up.
What You’ll Be Doing:
• Lead practical, high-value training onsite – VOCs, site-specific courses, machine competency development and inductions
• Support all surface mining departments by delivering technical training and ensuring contractor and employee compliance
• Design, refine and implement training procedures that lift operational capability across all workgroups
• Ensure training systems align with WA Legislation, Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and National Training Package requirements
• Maintain, review and analyse workforce training records and TNA data to guide development planning
• Partner closely with operational leaders to identify skill gaps, growth pathways and upskilling opportunities
• Coordinate RTOs and specialist vendors for high-risk licences, first aid and compliance training
• Monitor and report on WHS and training data, identifying trends and improvement opportunities
• Support incident investigations and contribute to safety initiatives
• Actively participate in field inspections, audits and toolbox meetings to maintain strong operational awareness
About You:
We’re looking for a hands-on Training Advisor with real open pit experience—someone who knows what good looks like in the field and can coach others to it. You’ll thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy collaborating with operational leaders, and be excited by the chance to influence training systems during a project start-up phase.
You will bring:
• A current C-Class manual driver’s licence
• Strong demonstrated experience as an Open Pit Training Advisor (or similar) within mining
• Cert IV in Training & Assessment
• Proven experience delivering training to varied group sizes in a high-performance mining environment
• Strong understanding of adult learning principles and how to apply them practically on the mine floor
• Well-developed knowledge of WHS legislation and safe operational practices
• High competency across training and incident management software (e.g., INX InControl, InTuition, +LMS or equivalent)
• Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and report development
