About the Role
We are seeking reliable and safety focused Trade Assistants for the upcoming AMPOL Refinery Turnaround. Working alongside Riggers, Boilermakers, Pipe Fitters, Welders, Mechanical Fitters and Supervisors, you will support day-to-day shutdown activities in a major refinery environment.
The turnaround runs from Mid August – September 2026, working a 6 days on / 1 day off roster Night shift on 50% of scope.
This role is ideal for hands on individuals comfortable working around mechanical, piping and lifting operations in a busy shutdown environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist tradespeople with shutdown and maintenance tasks across refinery work fronts.
- Support activities such as:
- Material handling and tool management
- Preparing piping, valves, fittings and equipment for installation
- Supporting welding, fabrication and mechanical tasks as directed
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure safe access/egress across work areas.
- Participate in risk assessments, JSA reviews, pre starts and toolbox talks.
- Follow Permit to Work, isolation and confined space processes as required.
- Assist with NDE/NDT access, equipment staging and documentation support.
- Communicate effectively with Supervisors and trades to ensure smooth task progression.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with UGL and AMPOL procedures.
About You
- Confined Space Certified (desired)
- Working at heights certified (desired)
- Forklift License (desired)
- Experience in oil refining, gas/chemical, heavy industry, construction or shutdown environments (preferred).
- Ability to support trades in high-risk work areas such as rigging, welding, piping and mechanical tasks.
- Understanding of basic safety practices including hazard identification, confined space, hot work and isolations.
- Physically capable, reliable and comfortable in a fast-paced shutdown environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow clear instructions.
- Positive attitude, team focused mindset and willingness to learn.
