This large, complex organisation operates within the resources and heavy industry sector and is investing significantly in digital products that improve operational visibility, safety, productivity and decision-making.

Its growing digital division develops products in partnership with frontline teams, combining operational knowledge with software engineering, data science and emerging technology. Following the successful development of a rapid prototype, the organisation is now seeking an experienced Technical Lead to guide the product through its next phase and into a secure, scalable production environment.

Your new role

As Technical Lead, you will provide technical direction for a multidisciplinary digital product team while remaining closely involved in software design, development, testing and implementation.

Approximately 70% of the role will involve hands-on engineering. You will own the product architecture and technical roadmap, make pragmatic technology decisions and establish the engineering practices required to take an early-stage product into production.

The product is designed to improve underground operational planning and execution by bringing together priorities, constraints, crews, equipment and operational data. It will give frontline and control teams greater visibility of what is happening, identify constraints and support more informed scheduling and resource-allocation decisions.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Owning the product architecture and technical roadmap from prototype through to production
• Designing, coding, testing and reviewing production software across application, data and cloud components
• Building reliable backend services, APIs, integrations and data pipelines
• Integrating operational data from mining, planning and enterprise source systems
• Establishing engineering practices across automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation and code quality
• Working with data scientists to operationalise optimisation, machine-learning and Generative AI capabilities

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced Senior, Staff or Principal-level Software Engineer who has taken complex, data-intensive products from prototype or early development into production.

• Strong hands-on software engineering and application architecture experience
• Experience building production-grade backend services, APIs and data-intensive applications
• Strong capability across several technologies including C#/.NET, Python, React and TypeScript
• Experience with modern data platforms and engineering tools such as Snowflake, dbt, Apache Airflow or Kafka
• Experience designing secure, reliable and scalable solutions within AWS
• Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability and production support practices
• The ability to lead technical direction while remaining actively involved in engineering delivery
• Experience working across software, product, data, cloud and business stakeholder groups

Experience with optimisation, operations research, constraint solving, MLOps, machine learning or Generative AI would be highly regarded. Exposure to industrial scheduling, dispatch, resource allocation, mining, resources or heavy operational environments would also be valuable, although direct mining experience is not essential.
