Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact

Reporting to the Lead, Digital, you will lead the maintenance, reliability and continuous improvement of critical mine technology systems that underpin safe and efficient operations across Newmont Tanami.

As the Team Lead, Mine Systems Technology, you will oversee a team responsible for communications infrastructure, underground mine control systems, remote operating technologies and site-wide technology networks, ensuring systems remain reliable, compliant and aligned to operational requirements.

This role provides the opportunity to influence future technology strategies, drive innovation and support the continued advancement of one of Australia's premier underground mining operations

As part of our team, you will

  • Lead and mentor a team of technology professionals and contractors
  • Oversee maintenance and reliability of radio communications, fibre and network infrastructure
  • Manage underground mine control and remote operating systems across site
  • Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance activities to maximise system performance
  • Collaborate with Mining, Maintenance and Technical Services teams to support operational requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across mine technology systems and infrastructure
  • Manage contractor performance, resources and maintenance budgets
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, procedures and documentation
  • Support project delivery, technology upgrades and future technology deployments
  • Ensure compliance with Newmont standards, statutory obligations and safety requirements

Prerequisites for your success in this role

  • Significant experience managing mine technology systems within a mining or heavy industrial environment
  • Demonstrated experience with underground VHF and UHF radio communication systems
  • Strong knowledge of underground mine control systems and remote operating technologies
  • Experience managing industrial networks, communications infrastructure and associated technologies
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience within a technical environment
  • Exposure to maintenance planning and asset management systems, including SAP
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience managing contractors and coordinating multidisciplinary work groups
  • Advanced computer literacy and technical documentation skills
  • Current Australian driver's licence
